Formation of the AA Office in Prahran

The AA Intergroup Office in Prahran opened in November 2010.

There was a meeting of groups held on the 14th August 2010 to discuss the establishment of an Intergroup Office. A significant number of groups (15) were interested in the establishment of a new Intergroup. Nominations were sought from those interested groups to form sub committee, 11 members nominated. On the 8th September 2010 the first meeting was held. Three members of the committee were authorised to carry out the legal business for the purpose of establishing an Intergroup Office.

Our AA Guidelines from World Services New York, describes an Intergroup or Central Office, as an AA service office that involves partnership among groups in a community-just as AA groups are partnerships among individuals. It is usually maintained, supervised and supported by these groups in their general interest. It exists to aid the groups in their common purpose of carrying the AA message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

We have sought and been granted by the General Service Board of Alcoholics Anonymous Australia, the right to use the AA logos and to sell literature to the groups.

The committee will scrupulously follow the Traditions & Concepts of Alcoholics Anonymous at all times. The purpose of the office is to be a coordinating body that supports 12th Step work of AA groups in the greater Melbourne area, to be an information hub to groups, and provide literature to the groups. The office will be responsible, and accountable to the groups who support it.

Financial support is needed for the phone services, to pay rent and any other overheads. Members are needed to volunteer for the 12th Step roster. Group contacts are needed for the flow of information.

In Love and service
